Vomitoxin aka Deoxynivalenol (IgE)
Vomitoxin (aka Deoxynivalenol) are trichothecene mycotoxins and can destroy intestinal barrier function, resulting in anorexia, inflammatory bowel disease and celiac disease. They are able to increase IL-8 secretion with a 10-to 15-fold increase. This mycotoxin can affect both estrogen and testosterone.
DON is known as vomitoxin because it causes nausea and vomiting as well as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, headaches, and even fever after ingestion.
Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of several mycotoxins produced by certain Fusarium species that frequently infect corn, wheat, oats, barley, rice, and other grains in the field or during storage.
Fusarium mycotoxins are the largest group of mycotoxins, which includes more than 140 known metabolites of fungi. They are synthesized by many species of fungi, mainly by Fusarium (F. graminearum and F. culmorum). Due to the high toxicity of Fusarium mycotoxins and high occurrence of the fungi species producing them, these mycotoxins belong to the most animal and human health endangering ones.

What does it mean if your Vomitoxin aka Deoxynivalenol (IgE) result is too high?
Vomitoxin aka Deoxynivalenol (DON) has been associated with outbreaks of acute gastrointestinal illness in humans.
Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of several mycotoxins produced by certain Fusarium species that frequently infect corn, wheat, oats, barley, rice, and other grains in the field or during storage. The exposure risk to human is directly through foods of plant origin (cereal grains) or indirectly through foods of animal origin (kidney, liver, milk, eggs). It has been detected in buckwheat, popcorn, sorgum, triticale, and other food products including flour, bread, breakfast cereals, noodles, infant foods, pancakes, malt and beer. DON affects animal and human health causing acute temporary nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, and fever.
Once the type of mold and mycotoxins have been identified, a treatment plan can be created. This may involve removing the source of the mold, such as fixing leaks or removing contaminated materials/foods. It may also involve using medications or supplements to support the body's natural detoxification processes or to address specific health issues caused by mycotoxin exposure.
There are various natural supplements and medications that have been used to treat mycotoxin exposure, including binders such as activated charcoal, chlorella, and bentonite clay. It is important to note that the effectiveness of these treatments can vary and it is recommended to work with a qualified healthcare professional to develop a comprehensive treatment plan
