Certain combinations of genetic factors, including both mentioned variants, could further elevate this risk.
Other risk factors that can contribute to the development of venous thromboembolism include low levels of certain proteins (protein C, protein S, or antithrombin III), being older, male, having a personal or family history of blood clots, smoking, undergoing surgery, being immobile for long periods, having cancer, or receiving treatments like tamoxifen, raloxifene, oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, and being pregnant.
