Treatment and Prevention of EFA Deficiency
Treatment for EFA deficiency focuses on increasing the intake of essential fatty acids through dietary changes or supplementation. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts, are highly recommended. Omega-6 fatty acids can be increased by consuming plant oils such as sunflower, safflower, and corn oil. For individuals unable to obtain sufficient EFAs from their diet alone, supplements such as fish oil or algae-based omega-3 capsules can be beneficial.
